Custom Hydraulic Cylinders for Nordic Industry

Custom Hydraulic Cylinders for Nordic Industry

Made to customer drawings — bore 20–1 000 mm, working pressure to 500 bar, stroke to 6 000 mm.

Demand in Scandinavia

Scandinavia operates some of Europe’s most hydraulics-intensive industries. Norway’s offshore platforms, Sweden’s and Finland’s forestry and mining sectors, the region’s commercial shipyards, pulp and paper mills, and heavy construction projects in Arctic conditions all share one requirement: hydraulic cylinders built to specific dimensions, rated for the application, and delivered on schedule.

Standard catalogue cylinders rarely fit. What Nordic buyers need is a manufacturer who can produce to customer drawings in short series, provide full documentation, and ship to the region without long lead times.

For four decades, Tubex Cylindrar AB (Borås, Sweden) served as one of Scandinavia’s primary sources for custom hydraulic cylinders. Founded in 1982, Tubex offered double-acting, single-acting, and telescopic cylinders — bore range 25–300 mm, working pressures to 210 bar, strokes to 6 000 mm — and built a particularly strong reputation for telescopic cylinders used in Nordic tipper trucks and tipping trailers.

In January 2021, Tubex was acquired by Melin & Carlsson Hydraulic AB. By autumn 2023, the Tubex brand had been fully absorbed into the group and its independent identity dissolved. Buyers who relied on Tubex for flexible short-run custom work found themselves looking for an alternative.

Hydroforce in the Nordic Market

Hydroforce Engineering has established a firm position as a custom hydraulic cylinder manufacturer for Nordic industry. We work with buyers from Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, and the Baltic states — delivering cylinders to customer drawings across the full range of industrial applications.

Our production capability does not simply cover the former Tubex range — it exceeds it on every critical parameter:

  • Bore range: 20 to 1 000 mm
  • Working pressure: up to 500 bar
  • Maximum stroke: 6 000 mm and beyond
  • Types: double-acting, single-acting, telescopic
  • Mounting: flange, clevis, trunnion, foot, or fully custom
  • Made to drawing from a single unit
  • Material certification: EN 10204 Type 3.1 on all structural steels
  • Quality system: ISO 9001:2015

Short production runs are standard practice, not an exception. We manufacture from a single unit upward with the same precision, material certification, and documentation on every piece.

Example 1 — Clevis-Mounted Cylinder Ø110 / Ø60 × 807 mm, 350 bar

Double-acting cylinder with forged clevis ends on both sides. Working pressure of 350 bar and 807 mm stroke make it well suited for forestry machinery, mobile cranes, and heavy lifting attachments.

Parameter Value
Bore / Rod diameter 110 / 60 mm
Stroke 807 mm
Working pressure 350 bar
Test pressure 525 bar
Tube E355 seamless steel (EN 10297-1)
Rod C45, hard chrome plated (EN 10083-2)
Coating RAL 7004 Signal Grey, 150 μm

Piston rods are ground and polished after hard chrome plating to surface finish Ra ≤ 0.2 μm. Each cylinder is pressure-tested to 1.5× working pressure for a minimum of five minutes before leaving the workshop.

Example 2 — Flange-Mounted Cylinder Ø180 / Ø125 × 200 mm, 160 bar

Heavy double-acting cylinder with front and rear flanges. At approximately 176 kg, it is built for press applications, heavy clamping systems, tipper platforms, and material handling machinery.

Parameter Value
Bore / Rod diameter 180 / 125 mm
Stroke 200 mm
Working pressure 160 bar
Test pressure 240 bar
Unit weight approx. 176 kg
Flanges 8× ø38 mm bolt holes, 330 mm PCD
Port connections BSP
Tube E355 seamless steel (EN 10297-1)
Rod C45, hard chrome plated (EN 10083-2)
Coating RAL 7035 Light Grey, 100 μm

Each unit is pressure-tested to 240 bar with seal integrity verified at all dynamic and static points.

Quality and Documentation

Every cylinder ships with EN 10204 Type 3.1 material certificates for all structural steels, a dimensional inspection report against the customer drawing, a pressure test certificate, and DFT coating thickness records. We meet documentation requirements for offshore, marine classification, and process industry projects.

Quality checks on every unit:

  • Material certification EN 10204 Type 3.1
  • Dimensional inspection per customer drawing
  • Piston rod surface roughness Ra ≤ 0.2 μm
  • Coating thickness ≥ 100 μm DFT
  • Pressure test to 1.5× working pressure, minimum 5 minutes
  • Leak test at all dynamic and static seals
  • Visual inspection of finish and protective packaging
